Cintropur UV Filters – Dos & Don’ts for Proper Use & Maintenance
✅ DOs – Best Practices
✔ Replace the UV lamp on time
The blue light of a UV lamp is not an indicator of effectiveness. Even if the lamp is still on, its disinfection power decreases over time.
Recommended replacement intervals:
- Mercury lamp (UV2100 & UV4100): once per year (12 months)
- Amalgam lamp (UV6100 & UV10100): every 2 years
- Quartz protection sleeve: every 5 years
➡️ The indicator on the filter head clearly signals when replacement is needed.
✔ Install the UV filter correctly
- Always install the UV unit as the last component in your water treatment system
- Install a pre-filter upstream to remove suspended particles that could block UV radiation
✔ Use and monitor the time indicator correctly
- At first use, fully press the button on the back of the blue time indicator to release the red liquid
- After one year, the colour will reach the end of the window
- Optimal performance requires a constant room temperature below 22°C
✔ For safety reasons, the UV lamp must never be connected to the power supply when it is not fully installed inside the filter. The lamp will only operate once it has been correctly mounted and secured. Always connect the filter to the power supply after complete assembly, then verify proper operation using the test indicator.
✔ Keep the UV steriliser switched on continuously
- The UV unit should remain permanently switched on, even when no water is consumed
- After long periods without water usage (holidays, more than one week), switch the unit off to prevent overheating
- When restarting, let the water run for 1 minute with the UV switched on before use
✔ Perform annual shock disinfection of the pipes
To ensure maximum UV efficiency, we recommend a shock disinfection approximately once a year.
Procedure (when filter is upstream of UV):
- Switch off the UV unit (for TRIO-UV: remove filter cartridge and activated carbon cartridge)
- Remove the filter element
- Fill the UV bowl 2–3 times with a half-diluted bleach solution
- Let the solution flow through all pipes
- Leave for 30 minutes
- Flush until smell and taste of bleach disappear
- Reassemble cartridges (TRIO-UV) and switch UV back on
✔ Clean the quartz sleeve when necessary
If the quartz pipe shows lime-scale or dirt:
- Clean it with non-abrasive diluted acid (vinegar, hydrochloric acid or anti-lime solution)
- Never use abrasive products
❌ DON’Ts – What to Avoid
✘ Don’t rely on the blue light as a performance indicator
A glowing lamp does not mean effective disinfection.
✘ Don’t frequently switch the UV unit on and off
Frequent on/off cycles or operating without water inside the bowl reduces lamp lifetime.
✘ Don’t operate the unit outside allowed temperature ranges
- Water temperature must be between 5°C and 50°C
- Below 5°C, there is a risk of equipment damage
✘ Don’t exceed the recommended flow rate
Using the UV steriliser above the maximum flow compromises safety and performance.
✘ Never expose the UV lamp outside the unit
UVC radiation is dangerous for eyes and skin.
The lamp only operates when correctly connected to the head (bayonet safety system with audible click).
✘ Don’t treat unsuitable water
The water must not be:
- Coloured
- Loaded with suspended solids
- High in iron, lime-scale or nitrates
🔒 Safety Reminder
- Always disconnect the power supply before working on the unit
- The UV lamp is designed exclusively for its intended use
- Proper installation according to manufacturer guidelines is mandatory
